The Cabinet is the main decision making body of the council and is responsible for the majority of the local authority's functions. When major decisions are to be discussed or made, either at a Cabinet meeting or by an individual Cabinet Member or Officer, these are published in the Cabinet's Forward Plan, in so far as they can be foreseen.
The Leader of the Council is also the Chairman of the Cabinet. The remainder of the Cabinet have responsibilities that cover specific service areas or themes. They may exercise delegated powers as set out in the Scheme of Delegation. They develop an expertise in their specific subject areas, monitor the budget and allocated resources and act as spokesperson for the Council in those areas.
